DIY Pedal Case
What you need:
Old suitcase
Pedal(s) (atm I'm only using a chromatic tuner)
Power adapter (9 volt for most pedals)
Power cord
Foam
Cloth
Velcro

Firstly, the old suitcase was bought in a second hand shop for € 1,25.
I opened her up and pulled the card-holders from the top panel.

So I cut some holes left and right, respectively for the power cord, the OUT-going jack and the IN-coming jack from my bass guitar. Next, I tried to visualize where all component should go and try to waste as little space as possible.

Try finding some old cloth laying around to fancy the case a bit up since the inside was like a eighties B movie.

Ask your mom to help you holding the cloth straight while you staple it down.

Stapled down, it should look like this (possibly yours is more straight).

So when I ordered my tuner I also ordered 1 m² of acoustic foam which always gives a nice touch. Cut out the foam and glue it on to the panel, done. Put something on it to put a little pressure on. (costs: € 2.5)

For getting the pedal onto the case I've used some adhesive velcro, so it's fairly easy to get your pedal off when needed. Make sure the soft side of the velcro is on the pedal, it just something to consider when you take it off and lay it on a table or something. (you don't want to scratch something) (cost: € 5)

Make sure the power adapter cables are neatly put together at the side. I also put some straps around the adapter and the power chord to make sure they stick together. (cost: € 15)

So finally it looks like this, I've had fun putting it together, my pedals are now easy to carry and they are protected. Total cost for the case including the power adapter and split cables was about € 25.

CES 2012

Consumer Electronics Show

De jaarselijkse beurs voor gadgets, televisies, computers, .. is alweer achter de rug. Hieronder een paar dingen die mij zeer interessant leken.

Note: als je niet constant wil geërgerd worden door die onozelle reclame op youtube, installeer dit voor je chrome browser.

Belkin wemo presenteert deze makkelijke manier van domotica, dit is voor mij het interessantste product. Ik heb jaren geleden al plannen gemaakt om mijn woning later uit te rusten met allerlei domotica toepassingen .. maar dit maakt het tot op bepaald niveau mogelijk om domotica als plug-and-play product te gebruiken. Ben benieuwd wat voor prijs dit speelgoed gaat krijgen.

 

Samsung smart window, eerste reactie wauw .. Minority report (2002) en Star Trek gebruikten dergelijke schermen al maar ik had het niet echt zien aankomen dat we dergelijke technologie anno 2012 zouden zien .. Eigenlijk is het een grote tablet maar dan in de plaats van een venster. In hoeverre dit ooit gaat doorbreken betwijfel ik een beetje, het gaat duur en vrij intensief zijn (vanwege de grootte en verticale positie).

Een Powerbag, los van het feit dat de naam wel bad ass klinkt, lijkt het mij nog handig in bepaalde situaties.. lange uitstappen en toch smartphone - laptop nodig?

De nieuwste televisie technologieën die gebruikt worden, dingen die we binnenkort op de markt zien. LG won met zijn 55 inch OLED televisie .. Blijkbaar zien de visionaire engineers bij Samsung ons al wuiven naar onze tv .. ze bouwen nu ook tv's met gebaar-herkenning. 

Er zijn nog honderden producten tentoongesteld die je hier kan vinden, je kijkt maar.
