Get network access without password
File sharing is way to handy not to exploit fully.
Especially handy when your network computers are not in the same room or even the same floor. This is the set up:
- Desktop in my room, fully shared incl. music, movies, pictures.
- Laptop in my workspace (downstairs)
The problem
I don't like having a password on my desktop (various reasons).
But when one tries to share files he needs enter a username AND password,
so it was choosing between getting password or not sharing.. after a little searching I stumbled upon this.
The solution
Hit ctrl-r or go to Start and run the command prompt.
Type in gpedit.msc, hit OK.
Navigate to Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options
Accounts: Limit local account use of blank password to console logon only should be set on Disabled.
And so you are able to keep your server password free and still access the shared files.
